I'm Nathan Marcy, the artist behind Great Gray Art. I am a trained wildlife biologist and self-taught painter. My interests in art and the natural world have always been inseparable. I've been seeking out wild creatures and drawing and painting them for as long as I can remember. Most of my professional life has been spent doing fieldwork on wildlife research projects all over the United States. The paintings I make now are often inspired by the animals I encounter while working in the field. The time between seasonal field jobs has given me opportunity and incentive to paint. I'm still working toward the goal of a permanent career in wildlife biology, but I'll keep painting even if I get there.
I grew up in rural western Massachusetts and now live with my wife in Ventura, California.
