I'm Nathan Marcy, the artist behind Great Gray Art. I am a wildlife biologist and self-taught painter. My interests in art and the natural world have always been inseparable. I've been seeking out wild creatures and drawing and painting them for as long as I can remember. I grew up in rural western Massachusetts and since then have lived or worked as a biologist in nearly every region of the United States. Many of my paintings are inspired by animals I have encountered while working or exploring. In some cases inspiration comes from elusive creatures I haven’t yet come across, like the great gray owl itself.
